League History
January 1, 2003  --   Central Iowa Youth Basketball was founded in 1991 by Dennis Blum and Jim Maine.Originally known as the Clive Basketball Association, our goal was to develop a basketball league for the youth of central Iowa that was founded on sportsmanship, competition, mutual respect and participation. We wanted to to create a league that allowed coaches to put together their own teams based on their childrens friends, classmates, etc.. We also placed a high emphasis on the games starting and staying on time.

We began the 1991-92 season with 16 teams in grades 3 - 6. Our formula was working because succeeding seasons have seen the league grow consistently. For the 2003-04 season we have 91 teams in grades 4 through 8. We have added a girls league. Our plan is to continue to nuture the development and growth of both the boys and girls divisions.

In 1991 we started out at one site - Crestview Elementary School in Clive, Iowa. Our growth has required additional sites. In 2002-03 we use 4 different sites - Crestview, Crossroads Elementary, Waukee Middle School and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. This has put a strain on our human resources. We are investigating opportunities to find/develop a site that would allow all the league to play in one location.

We currently serve nearly 900 central Iowa families from Clive, West Des Moines, Des Moines, Johnston, Urbandale, Ankeny, Altoona, Ames, Grimes, Huxley, Marshalltown and Grimes. We hope to expand and strengthen our ability to meet the needs and desires of the families of central Iowa.
